Jan. 22 (BNA) — President Barack Obama’s historic trip to India next week is further evidence of renewed engagement between the two countries, which means the time to enhance the U.S.-India trade relationship is now, said Chris Moore, National Association of Manufacturers’ senior director for international business policy.

That action, according to Moore, should include the following:
- working to lower Indian tariffs topping 100 percent on products that include distilled spirits, textiles and autos;
- restoring zero duties on telecommunications products covered by the World Trade Organization Information Technology Agreement;
- strengthening India’s protection of ideas, brands and innovations; and
- eliminating requirements that would force local production of solar energy/telecommunicatons equipment.
