The meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President Barack Obama next week will highlight India’s regional security role and provide the two leaders an opportunity to chart a course towards enhanced bilateral economic ties, the White House has said.
“It will highlight India’s role in regional security and stability, and provide an opportunity for the two leaders to chart a course towards enhanced trade, investment, and development cooperation between the US and India,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters abroad Air Force One.
Manmohan is scheduled to meet Obama at the White House on September 27.
His trip is being termed as a working visit, which includes a meeting between the two leaders at the Oval Office and a luncheon.
“The meeting follows the Prime Minister’s visit to Washington in 2009 and the President’s memorable visit to India in 2010,” Earnest said.
From Washington, Manmohan would fly to New York to attend the 68th session of the UN General Assembly.
Obama would address the UN General Assembly on September 24 and would return to Washington the same night.
